Ingredients for 1 Servings

  • 200 grams of all-purpose flour
    A pinch of salt
100 grams of unsalted butter, cold and grated
    Cold water (about 3-4 tablespoons)

    30min – 1 hour
Method
    1. Start by grating the cold butter using a fine grater. Place the grated butter in the refrigerator to keep it cold while you prepare the rest of the dough.
    2. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and a pinch of salt.
    3. Add the cold, grated butter to the flour mixture. Use a fork or your fingers to gently mix the butter and flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. The cold butter bits should be evenly distributed in the flour.
    4. Gradually add cold water, one tablespoon at a time, and mix the dough with a fork. Continue adding water and mixing until the dough comes together and can be formed into a ball. Be careful not to overwork the dough; it should just come together.
    5. Once the dough has formed, shape it into a disc, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate it for at least 30 minutes. Chilling the dough allows the gluten to relax and the butter to firm up, making it easier to grate later.
    6. After chilling, you can use a box grater to grate the dough into the desired size or shape for your recipe. Grate the dough directly onto your dish or baking pan as needed.
    7. Use the grated dough according to your recipe’s instructions. It’s commonly used as a topping for pies, cobblers, or other baked dishes.
